So a Test which has been unpredictable all the way through finally became predictable as England managed what was expected of them, knocking over all the Australian wickets before lunch and winning with a good few dozen runs left in the bank...

It is almost becoming predictable to say that the day's play in the Ashes was unpredictable, but once again it is the case. Welcome to the TGIAF review of the fourth day at Trent Bridge.

The Test resumed with England's Ian Bell and Stuart Broad on 95 not out and 47 not out respectively. The first thing we said at the resumption of yesterday's play was that we would actually make sure we would turn up before the start of play in time to catch the two players reach their landmarks.

Share a Coke with Stuart - but don't expect him to walk for it.

After two days of improbable and, at times, impossible cricket over the first two days of the Ashes, a sense of normality was restored at Trent Bridge when England regained some of the batting prowess that took them to the top of the world.

A day of incredible contrasts aptly summed up by Investec's mascot.

19, 0, 3, 31, 55, 5, 1, 0, 3, 163... spot the odd one out.

Welcome to the TGIAF report of the second day of the opening Ashes Test. The opening day provided all the drama and excitement the Ashes is synonymous with, but with the grey clouds of Wednesday turning into the red-hot sun of Thursday (my right ear is very painfully burned), expectations were that wickets would be much more harder to earn than yesterday. And so it seemed when Steve Smith and Phil Hughes progressed with little trouble, never getting beaten by the ball.

Welcome to the second TGIAF Trent Bridge update. For the background on these reports, have a read of the first post in this series. The article suggested that the side batting first has a distinct advantage, so it should have been good news when England won the toss this morning and Alistair Cook elected to bat.

Shall we rock?

Welcome to the first in a series of TGIAF entries for the first Ashes Test. I will be at Trent Bridge for the full five days, so each of these articles will be a mixture of my experiences in Nottingham and the usual TGIAF analysis.

Introduction

With the Ashes approaching, I have finally got around to doing a new article for this site. As I will be at the full five days at the first Test at Trent Bridge, I also plan to be updating the site with daily reports, probably of varying length. But first, a preview, to decide if the pre-series predictions of a nailed-on England win are justified.

By looking at the build-up to the last 10 Ashes (including the 2013 series) stretching back to 1994/95, we can see how Australia and England are shaping up compared to previous series.
